What's this all about? Frequently Asked Questions
Find a camp

Q. Is this camp only for seven's players?
A. No. Learning footwork for evasive running is a necessity for both 15s and 7s; it creates the "individual" advantage, which in turn, creates a "Team" advantage, offensively.

Q. Is this camp only for backs?
A. No. All players require evasive running skills, regardless of position.

Q. Is this camp for both men and women, or only women?
A. Athletes of both genders may attend a Rugby Footwork Camp. Training techniques and drills are not gender specific. When contact situations arise, you will be grouped appropriately.

Q. Will kicking be covered at these camps?
A. No, there will not be any kicking.

Q. I've heard that you need to be really fast to come to one of these camps. How do I know if I'm fast enough?
A.Rugby is not just about straight line speed .... learning footwork creates DANGEROUS runners, in addition to improving your speed.

Q. Do you have to be a certain age to attend?
A. We require that attendees are at least 18 years old. If you are interested in scheduling a footwork camp for players who are under 18, please contact us. We can modify the standard camp to meet your needs.

Q. I play in the tight five. Is this camp any good for me?
A. We believe that once the scrum and lineout are over, all players should have equal skills. All players should learn to run evasively, run good support llines, and make good decisions with the ball.

Q. How much contact is there at camp?
A. That depends! If you are able to run the evasive lines taught at camp, you will become elusive enough to avoid the big hits. However, both tackling and breakdown skills will be covered at this camp.

Q. Does lifting weights make you slower or faster?
A. Faster! You will learn how "strength equals speed", and you'll learn that "one legged" strength movements are PIVOTAL to mastering change in direction.

Q. What kinds of things will you teach me?
A. We're going to teach you alot.

  • how and why the skills in rugby replicate what we practice in the gym and on the track
  • mastering running lines with the ball in hand
  • master running support lines that change with the ball carrier's original line of run
  • an intellectual approach to the 2 v1, 3 v 2, 3 v3
  • how the standard rugby body position in contact is prevalent throught game - offensively and defensely- AND how to train for it
  • 1 on 1 defensive techniques and how they change when the offense changes running lines
  • how, as our offensive moves become more sophisticated, our defensives moves MUST become more sophisticated

Q. How fit do I need to be to come to camp?
A. Average fitness is required. Camps involve repetitive running movements of 10-15m.

Q. Can coaches attend a Footwork Camp?
A. Absolutely! We aspire to connect with other coaches to join us in our crusade to improve basic skills for all players.

Q. Can you do a camp at my school?
A. Yes, contact us through the website and we'll make a date!

Q. I'm completely new to rugby. Can I attend a footwork camp?
A. It depends; some new players come to the game with impeccable athletic skills learned by playing other high level sports. If this applies to you, contact us directly and we'll walk you through your decision making process on whether you start with us, or your local team.

Q. Why do you limit the number of participants at each camp?
A. We are committed to ensureing that each player gets an ample amount of individual training, and has an opportunity to complete as many repetitions as possible. We limit the number of participants in order to facilitate this environment.

Q. Is there any financial assistance available?
A. Not directly; we recommend you approach your club, LAU or TU for grants, etc., if there is a hardship.
